Located within the historic former Kresge department store in Detroit’s Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood, this soul food restaurant is a heartfelt celebration of tradition, community, and healthy living. Founded in 2015 by two brothers, the restaurant was born from a deep connection to family, faith, and neighborhood pride, offering a fresh, low-sodium approach to classic comfort food without sacrificing flavor or authenticity. Centered on locally sourced ingredients and “down-South hospitality,” the space welcomes guests with warmth, familiarity, and genuine care.
The design honors the building’s legacy while creating an inviting, contemporary gathering place. Original tin ceilings, historic-style light fixtures, and carefully restored architectural details recall the former Kresge store’s character, while a communal eating counter reinforces the restaurant’s community-first spirit. Approachable, rooted, and full of soul, the restaurant stands as both a neighborhood anchor and a modern expression of homestyle cooking—where history, health, and hospitality meet.
